Évora, Alentejo - Portugal
QUINTA DA ESPADA is located on the road to Arraiolos, 4 Km apart from Évora. It's a typical country-side accomodation from Alentejo (called locally «monte»), composed of 5 bedrooms with private toilet and central heating, plus a 2 apartment complex, each one with two double rooms, a living room with fireplace and a kitchinet. Both apartments are equiped with Cable TV and air conditioned.
The Quinta was first registered in 1822, under the name of «Quinta do Barão de Cacilhas» (the Estate of the baron of Cacilhas). Later on, its owners changed the name to «Quinta da Espada». The Sword Estate, due tom the fact that according to na ancient tale, the brave conqueror of Évora from the Moors - Geraldo Geraldes «O sem pavor» (the Fearless) – hid in that very place, the sword he used to achieve the conquest of Évora in 1165. At that time, Évora was considered the most precious, as well as the best protected «jewel» of the plains. From then on, it has belonged to the Portuguese Crown.
Combining both the proximity to Évora, which was inclued in the World Heritage list by UNESCO en 1986, and the delight of being surrounded by Nature and History (the aqueduct build in 1531 runs through the estate), your stay with us surely be unforgettable.
